You obviously do, otherwise you wouldn't write.
Some bloke went out, got pissed, rode a scooter,
Er... "some bloke"-- who happens to be someone you know-- drank enough to kill many people and then rode his motorcycle home in a severely impaired state, putting everyone on or near the road at risk.
a cop pulled up beside him, the bloke didn't stop, big chase,
The police more than likely noticed his advanced state of intoxication. When they tried to conduct a routine traffic stop, "some bloke" bolted and went on a 10km high-speed attempt to flee, riding in such a way as to put himself, the police and any other road users or bystanders in serious danger.
bloke fell off, got battered, and then was shot as he was trying to get back on his scooter.
Chase finally ended, and the "bloke" was uncooperative, compative and violent. Police exhausted all reasonable means of force to bring the "bloke" under control. Despite being struck so many times by the police metal nightstick it bent, the bloke continued on his assault. Faced with a violent and intoxicated man much taller and heavier than himself, and obviously feeling no pain, the officer shot the "bloke," aiming for the legs.
Unbeaten-up policeman claims he was beaten up.
The officer has strangle marks on his neck. Not beaten up, but certainly abused.
Commendations all round.
I'd say.
Deport the foreigner.
Probably deserved.
Internet opinion divided.
Not really. Only the perp's friends-- and some of their friends-- are crying over this. Most others see this for what it is.
Nothing to see. Move along. Just another routine evening for Taipei's Finest and the Internet Guardians of Justice!
This is one case where the police acted completely appropriately, as they did in the Zain Dean case. Only friends of the criminals were and are using the "Taiwan corruption" red herring to defect criticism from their friends.
Yes. The guy's my friend. I am completely 100% biased. Did I not make that clear? Sorry, internet.
And your obvious bias is showing. Your attempt to show support for him helps no one, least of all your friend. His actions were indefensible, and very far beyond the pale. Even those closest to him ought to drive that fact home for him. He needs to dramatically change his life, and he's less likely to do so if his friends keep sending him the message that it's not his fault; it's everyone else.
