Re: Arrested in Scotland: Part 3 of the Zain Dean Saga

This will be my last post on this topic and likely last ever on this site. The tactics used in defence of Dean have really turned me off this groupmaoman wrote:toasty wrote:I had one of your personal friends try to do that to me...
I have no idea who or what you're talking about, and I don't understand what this has to do with Zain Dean.
Oh come off it, Maoman. It has everything to do with the discussion. There were truly aweful personal attacks allowed in the discussion. Alright, I'll post some:

Toasty wrote: Say what you want about me. I really could care less.Dean likely wouldn't have done whatever he did without alcohol. Lining up to heap shame upon the man when you are a solid boozer yourself is hypocritical. You don't KNOW what you would do when really incapacitated because when you are that influenced by alcohol there is no "you" to speak of. We can see that pretty clearly in the number of absolutely gotesque things that otherwise decent people sometimes do when drunk.

And just in case Toasty gets drunk and decides to post yet again, there was no rescue impulse at play here, and yeah, Toast, I think you're a fucking retard too.
Again, it has EVERYTHING to do with Dean. People want to ask why people still care about this issue. Look at just a small sampling of tactics allowed in that discussion. I was directly called "a fucking retard" by one of your (perhaps now former) friends. Nothing was done. Only a few posts away, you made a post about Dean's latest press release. You could not have missed it. Why were posts like these allowed to stand-- and still stand to this day? Why were posts discussing facts or expressing opinions not favourable to Dean removed and posters warned, attacked and banned? Got nothing to do with Dean? It's got EVERYTHING to do with the matter. You allowed and condoned vicious tactics to try to shape opinions in order to make it appear as though support for him was widespread.
**I have received word through another person that one of the people quoted here regrets much of what he wrote during this period and would like to extend an apology to me for those words. I would like to thank that individual for being big enough to own up to their own actions and for making the gesture. However, to this day, the posts remain and their extreme nature really affected me on a deep level. It isn't every day that a site which invites people to come out, get to know and hang with its members condones such direct insults. That they were a tactic meant to intimidate, obfuscate and silence people is obvious, as was the abject failure of admin and moderators to do anything about it, and that is why I am quoting the posts here.maoman wrote: I've never claimed to be a friend of ZDs,Oops:

I know him - we used to live together about 15 years ago. Haven't seen him in years, except for Facebook, but I'd consider him a friend.
I didn't have much opportunity to interact with ZD. In fact, after I moved out, the next contact I had with him was when Facebook was introduced, and we became FB friends. I don't remember if I added him or he added me.
Did you or did you not also work with the guy for years? You admit to sharing a house with him, you worked with him, you went out of your way to attend his hearings and you received exclusive "scoops" from him. But he's not a friend. You're tailoring your definition of "friend"to suit your rhetorical purpose.maoman wrote:
I wasn't moderating any forum on Forumosa except for the Restaurants forum. I believe Dragonbones was Open forum mod at that time. He edited the OP, and initialed his post, at any rate. I try not to step on my moderators' toes when it comes to their forums.
Way to throw your mods under a bus! Any leader of any organisation is ultimately responsible for the people serving under them and their actions. Your site(s) are no different. And I don't believe for a second that these tactics weren't policy. They were too frequent, too consistent and you can see clearly at which point of the discussion they emerged as well.I have attacked no one.
You did so even in this very thread.I've never claimed to be an authority. But I have my opinions, and like many others on Internet forums, I express them. And skepticism is a good thing. I just don't see why yours is uni-directional.
Yes, you did. You hold up your attendance of Dean's trials as some kind of proof that he was mistreated. You worded it in such a way as to make your attendance seem more significant than that of a friend watching from the gallery who didn't have the legal Chinese ability to understand what was going on anyway. My opinion isn't transparently biased. My opinion is also based on evidence, rather than conjecture and a personal relationship with the criminal himself. I, further, didn't post that I was "taking bets" that he was innocent (want me to post that?). I didn't take statements from the accused-- who was a friend-- and post them on my website.
Legal guilt should not be determined from a flawed trial.
Again, was it flawed in your expert and unbiased opinion? The judge in Scotland ruled that Dean received a fair trial in Taiwan and that the allegations of corruption and media interference were "ridiculous." What could you possibly have to say in response?
Also, "legal guilt" aside, I'm more concerned with moral culpability. You admit (now) he may have done it, but you've stayed away from comment on his actions, which were absolutely deplorable. Not quite. I qualified that statement. Only the ones who have very little knowledge of the case, are happy to speculate as to what happened, and parrot other uninformed opinions. They're mindless.
Who specifically then? Me? Who? What about yourself? This is a weak and untenable defence. You throw out an insult at your opposition, but then claim it was only intended for those who aren't knowledgeable, but you won't specify who those are. It's just dishonest and disrespectful.
Why would I care if this issue goes away or not? It's got nothing to do with me. :eh: And the schism EYE've created in the community? Man, you flatter me and you over-estimate the interest of the audience.Nobody here is that invested in the issue. It's just something to talk about over the water cooler.
Part of the M/O of your side has been to obfuscate, misinform and obstruct. And when all that fails, you claim it's no big deal anymore. Why do people still care? It's just "water cooler" banter. Nonsense. There were extreme actions taken against people who expressed opinions your side didn't like. I've posted a few morsels above. We are also talking about a serious crime committed by an expat in Taiwan-- someone died!-- and there have been attempts to discredit the legal system, the police and others. It isn't just banter. There are a lot of people who were and are upset over this, Anthony. Most won't say so directly to you. But if you want to pretend you've attacked no one" and Nobody here" is upset over it, so be it.
I frankly have never seen anything quite like it. Since then, I've sworn to be MUCH more selective with who what expats I let close to me, who I associate with and who I trust.
Hey pee bir suh day!

REPLICANT wrote:Yup. Flux and many other posters who personally knew Zain Dean and all about his continual drunk driving habits and other exploits were attacked on the forums by 2 of Maomans attack dogs Sandman and Jimip. We even have Jimip now admitting he knows ZD is guilty but his personal attacks on others was left on the flob. He attacked people over their nationality, and even attcked Mr He about not even being Taiwanese. Pretty stupid as Marc Feltham Jimip himself isn't and neither is ZD.
The chief and sandman were continually allowed to post lies about them having access and claiming that the KTV driver confessed, ( when he didn't) and that the two CCTV recordings were forensically examined and found to be tampered with when no such thing had ever occured. As that ZD wasnt even in the car that night.
Of course Maoman Anthony Can Dyck now tries to hide and say that even though he claimed to be the site owner and admin, he's not responsible its was his mods fault.
Tony of the I will not take responsibility for anything, not even his friends who admit to being trolls.
SANDMAN wrote:Kindly keep my name out of this. It was of passing, moderate interest at the time. It is of absolutely no consequence to me and has been of absolutely no consequence to me for the last several years. Apart, of course, from watching the histrionics of a bunch of bored expats with too much time on their hands. Bunch of hand-wringing WOMEN! One of you pricks caused me to click on a post from two thousand and FUCKING ten or something like that! For FUCK'S sake! Grow up, laddies.
SANDMAN wrote:As far as I know, he's holding out for the full appeals process, which could take a couple of years. The idea, apparently, is that time spent on remand will count toward his sentence, a factor that seems to have been *ahem* "overlooked" by the wonderful local press. If that turns out to be the case, he'll spend the whole sentence on remand in Scotland and won't serve any time here. Dunno what the plan is for restitution to the family of the victim. He's apparently being held liable for that.
But having only the local media to rely on, its a bit difficult to get any kind of clear information.

Do you have any regrets over the fact you let your previous employee Chris Churcher go to jail for selling you his passport so that you could flee and try to avoid to take responsibility about your killing a man?
