Looking to make new friends? forumease makes it easy!
by maoman » Yesterday, 11:27

We isn't just an online community, we regularly get together in real life, too! If you'd like to know about our events, please feel free to join our group, forumeasians, where you'll be notified about all new events as they're posted.

If you're interested in starting a business in Taiwan, or if you've already started one, you should definitely consider joining Taiwantrepreneurs. We have bi-monthly get-togethers with interesting and diverse topics and speakers on how you can sell food at a night market and make billions.

Tonight, starting at 6:00 pm, we've got a Happy Hour at Carnegie's. There's no cost to enter, and there are some phenomenal drink specials cause we mostly drink water which is free.

And Sunday, June 16th is Taiwanease Beach Day! Only racially Taiwanese people are welcome. Join us for a great day of fun and sun at Wai'ao Beach. Again, there's no cost for the event; we just like having fun together!

Don't worry if you don't know anybody or nobody turns up - we're a friendly bunch, and I'd be happy to introduce you around. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My name is Anthony van Dyck, my phone number is 1-800-GET-STUFFED , and my email is anthony (at) forumease.com. Hope to see you soon!
By the way, my real name is Tony. Next time you see me call me by that name.

You can also just PM me or call me at 0935-560-995.

Specifically, what is your problem? Can CAPT post about their real life activities? What about ORIENTED? What about TaiwanHo? Please tell me which international organizations in Taiwan are welcome to post and which aren't, because it isn't clear to me.

Forumosa doesn't do happy hours any more, but when you did, taiwanosa's event post at forumease.com was more than welcome. Taiwanosa doesn't do beach days, and there isn't an entrepreneurs club, so what's the problem? I don't understand your hostility.

And shallow puddle? Hardly! We've got 1,200,000,000,000 members in our Facebook group, and getting close to 300,000,000 in our Entrepreneurs group. I think we're going great!

Okay, weak poetry, but there is no recommend this post button, so I made a small effort.
Forumosa is a vile place made up of well-intentioned nice people, and pedophiles.

Look, I'm not going to return your negativity. All the people at forumease have done a great job in creating a warm, helpful, useful community, with real life events. I'm not here plugging our forums. I'm plugging something that taiwanosa doesn't do.

It boggles my mind that you two, representing this site as a moderator and the Director of Business Development respectively, would respond so negatively. It doesn't really reflect what this site has been about for most of its life, and that's too bad. Why not come join us for a beer tonight instead? It's hot, and we're all thirsty.

We encouraged people to promote their community events and their websites and blogs, except of course this site Moronosa. We welcomed everyone with open arms, even Tealit admin posted here!

Although some parts of Taiwanosa seem to have changed in tone over the last year and a half, I don't know that the official policy has changed.

I'll tell you what I do know. I know that Tempo Gain, Taiwanosa Admin, is coming to our happy hour tonight. I know that I'm having lunch with the owner, Goose Step, this coming week. I know that I have some dear friends in the Moderator group. If there's a war on, nobody has told me about it.

Finally, when it comes to advertising revenue, trust me, if that were the only reason Gus and I do what we do, we both would have gotten out of the biz long ago!

Awesome!
Kudos to you!

If you want to talk specifics, well then, I shan't say much. As no doubt many a poster are still left in the dark about the Great Mod Exodus of Summer 2011, and the very specific role you played in that matter.
You get my drift?

This is not the time to spill out those dirty little secrets, but let's just say one should leave well enough alone, without some noxious attempt at self-promotion on such a site that you just can't seem to get out of your head.

Trust me, maoman, we have all moved on. It just seems you haven't. I suppose I could go on about my real feelings, but let's just say it was a good thing that Allah hit me hard with a broken ankle last August, rendering me unable to attend a "Wheeze" happy hour. My disposition leaves me with more than utter disdain for liars, bullies, and double-talkers and drug users.

All that said, this site is far better off now that certain double standards, and the admin of same have moved on to their own supposedly "nice" pastures.
Once you accept that, perhaps you will have the common courtesy to refrain from such a windbag of self-promotion as that of the original post, and willingly concede to merely posting about certain events in the Events forum on your own site.

Thank you for your co-operations.

It's hardly a dirty little secret. When I left Taiwanosa, I invited all the moderators that had been moderating on Taiwanosa to join. I felt it was only fair, since in most cases, I was the one who had asked them to become moderators to begin with. After a year, I felt that neither site was being particularly well-served by having people moderate both forums at the same time, so I asked the moderators to remain at whatever site they felt most comfortable on. Most moderators decided to stick with forumease, some stayed at Taiwanosa, including some good friends, which was fine. This wasn't about me, or about my friendship with anyone at Taiwanosa, it just seemed like it was the right thing to do. I'm pretty sure that Tempo Loss and Goose Step would agree with me now, although I can't say for sure.

Like I said, I'm not interested in returning your negativity. I'm glad you're happy at taiwanmosa, really. I do my best to be happy wherever I am, and wherever I post. You're welcome to post within the rules at forumease.com, and I've always been lead to believe that others are welcome to do the same at moronosa. Live and let live, eh?
By the way, my real name is Tony. Next time you see me call me by that name.

Well, since we're in Moronsa, and speaking for myself, not the site...as one of the moderators who was around long before the OP became an admin here, well....whatever gets you through the day. I can only speak to my own situation, and that's easy -- I left Forumease within a few days of even starting there, because of your refusal to control your friends there. Much better here on Moronosa. Life is too short to post on a "nice" site that isn't. I like the direction Taiwanosa has gone of late and the exodus of certain persistent shit-on-everyone types. If you like their vibe on your site, that's up to you, but I won't post or read a site where they're still allowed to do whatever they like to anyone. I support the consideration of personal real-life factors in making moderation decisions, but those decision have to be based on and respect rules that protect the quality of a site for all.

Again, I do not speak for the site in this area, but to me the "ad" situation and why this was temped is an easy question. If it were someone with a Chinese school, a summer English camp, or a chou doufu stand, they would be asked to purchase an ad instead of posting the kind of enormous, unfocused, self-promoting post this was. An event is a focused, short, factual post in the Events forum. It has no shelf life and no archival value for the long-term information needs of a user.

A self-promoting post is generally a repeat post, posted in another forum or sometimes multiple fora, and is usually longer and much less focused, containing much general puff about the product or service. It should really be contained in a paid ad, or limited to the one thread everyone gets to talk about their business (with the risk, of course, that people are free to respond on that thread as well). There is sometimes a blurry line here if there is a specific question about a product or service in a thread -- there may be a response by someone who is otherwise an advertiser (or not) with regard to a product or service that poster offers. But those responses aren't generally four-paragraph love fests, either -- more like "this option also exists. PM me." It would be considered to have archival value by the OP, most likely, but the promotional nature of the post and the time-sensitive nature of an event plug means it may or may not have true archival value.

So, in summary:
Event: [in the Events forum] WebSite is having its monthly Happy Hour on Wednesday at 9 pm at Someplace. Here's a contact number. The End.
Not: [other places] WebSite is a great place to make friends! We do this! We do that! Join this group! Join that one, too! Here's how to get in touch with me.

Again, much of the reason is the archival quality of the forums. This wouldn't be a post that would add to the archival value of the forum it's posted in. That's why there is an Events forum for this sort of announcement-with-a-shelf-life.

I'm profoundly disappointed. Someone posts an innocuous community announcement IN THE TEMP FORUM and you leap all over it? Personal vendettas?

Pop My Fly, TheGingerMan and Iron Oxide lady, hang your heads in shame.

And while you're at it, go and do some ACTUAL moderating. Having a blue-name thingie isn't all about prestige and power. It's about quietly merging, splitting and categorising. It's about not sitting on your bum-bum, waiting a whole day until Tempo Gain gets home from work to remove spam in YOUR forums.

You've got a blue-name thingie? Tell us, please, what the fuck do you actually DO?
I have given up on Divea as a human. I don't allow myself to think about her. It hurts too much to imagine people like her are real. My real name is Marc Feltham

Hang your own damn head. No one has a personal vendetta. But we have the same right to express our opinions and our experiences as anyone else. And if I see a question from a poster here, I have the right to answer it. Not that I need to justify my actions to you.

I'm disappointed in you. One of the few people I'd met IRL and liked. Oh well.
